"Adrien Brody Doing Things" sneak peek

Hello boys and girls, I have been pretty excited about my BrodyBook. I had done a week of practicing Brody faces, and yesterday I started the actual illustrations. I still don't know how I want to color it or if I want to color it at all.

If you're wondering why I've decided to create a book of illustrations depicting Adrien Brody doing things, it is because... why the hell not? I'm not an obsessed Brody fan. I have not seen most of his filmography, but I have enjoyed what I have seen (love the Brothers Bloom and Dummy). I just like him. Truth be told, this project happened because one day while doodling, I realized that I could easily draw Adrien Brody freehanded. That was good enough for me to start a project.

I start sketching in pencil and then fill in with Micron pen. Finally I edit in Photoshop: adjusting the Curves to enhance the contrast, cleaning up any messy lines or mistakes... that's about it. I'm pretty boring on the computer. Sorry. I also haven't done figure drawing since May so I'm still not very confident with my lines. I also drew all of these freehand since I don't have a model. It would be nice to have Adrien Brody pose for me, but alas I must use my imagination like a loser. I know I can find reference on the internet, but when I'm on the internet, suddenly I have 6 tabs open and I've purchased 6 things I don't need.

So here's the Brody!

I may redo this one because I feel like his hand is too big. This is what happens when I draw freehand at 3:00am; I fancy myself a great illustrator and end up with wonky anatomy.

Here I have left a Brody-foot on the right just for this post. I tend to doodle off to the side whenever I can't figure out what I'm drawing. It doesn't matter since I can erase it in Photoshop later. Like a wizard.

This one is a funny one because I drew it last night at about 3:00am. I couldn't figure out why it looked weird. I was sure that it was because I had Adrien's arm proportions wrong. That was true. I also thought if I added his left arm that it would balance things out. That was also true (see his pencil ghost arm!). However, it wasn't until today that I finally realized that I had drawn the wrong hand on the wrong arm. No wizard magic short of Minerva McGonagall could help me so I had to draw a new Brody. Adrien 1.0 was not my best Brody.

To show how I work (if anybody cares), here's the original image before my wizard magic on Photoshop. It's muddy from carbon smudges, and this was my first one so the lines were extra loose and squiggly.
